About Project InterACTION

Project InterACTION is a multidisciplinary research initiative that seeks to advance a dynamic and multilevel understanding of cultural processes in negotiation and collaborations in the Middle East. Our team includes scholars from anthropology, behavioral economics, communication, computer science, psychology, and political science from universities worldwide. We are organized in a number of interdisciplinary research teams to examine such questions as:

  • What are the relevant dimensions and cultural constructs in the Middle East that are critical for understanding culture and negotiation and collaboration processes across a wide range of situational contexts?
  • How does culture affect basic psychological and social processes in dyadic negotiations and collaborations?
  • How do social contextual factors and individual differences dynamically affect negotiation and collaboration across cultures?
  • What are the factors that facilitate versus inhibit intercultural negotiation and multicultural collaboration effectiveness?
  • How can dynamical modeling and agent based modeling help develop theory on culture, negotiation, and collaboration?

Scholars in Project InterACTION are using a wide variety of research approaches to address these questions, including laboratory experiments, surveys, interviews, archival analyses, and computer simulations. This multimethod approach will help to provide a systematic and in-depth understanding of the dynamic influences of culture on negotiations and collaborations.
